Two Years After Hurricane Irene Hits the Hudson Valley, Maloney Announces Much Anticipated Disaster Assistance

Newburgh, NY – Two years after Hurricane Irene devastated the Hudson Valley, Representative Sean Patrick Maloney announced a nearly $2 million investment for the Town of New Windsor to repair severe damage caused by Hurricane Irene. This disaster assistance will help restore Butternut Drive which collapsed due to an embankment failure.

“This investment in our local infrastructure is a step in the right direction for our neighbors in the Hudson Valley who were devastated by the one-two-punch of Irene and Lee, said Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney. “While I am deeply disappointed that the extreme partisan agenda of the last Congress delayed this needed relief, I am proud that we have finally achieved results for thefamilies, communities, and small businesses who continue to recover and rebuild stronger and safer neighborhoods.”

As of July 16, 2013 and prior to this award, FEMA Public Assistance had obligated more than $1.5 million to Orange County and more than $1.3 million to Putnam County. These important federal investments restore any damaged structures or facilities to pre-storm condition and reimburse our communities for their emergency response efforts during and following Hurricane Irene, Tropical Storm Lee and Superstorm Sandy. In June, Rep. Maloney hosted a workshop that helped over two dozen community leaders apply for strategic investments to prevent damage from future disasters. Following Superstorm Sandy and working with local leaders, Rep. Maloney wrote to Governor Cuomo Cuomo to highlight key projects across the Hudson Valley that are critically important to preventing future storm damage.
