'A Ride for Ty' Passes Through Putnam

Dozens of motorcyclists rode from Mahopac to Patterson Saturday in an effort to raise money for pediatric cancer research.

The event was held in the name of Ty Louis Campbell, the 5-year-old from Pawling who died in October 2012. He was diagnosed with an aggressive and rare form of cancer just before his third birthday.

Hosted by the Back Draft Motorcyle Club, the ride featured raffles, food, and drinks—plus free T-shirts to the first 100 riders. The entry fee was $25 per person.

Ty's mother, Cindy, documented Ty's battle with cancer in this blog, which she still updates. She and Lou Campbell, Ty's father, created the Ty Louis Campbell Foundation. It aims to increase awareness of pediatric cancer, and raise funds that will go toward finding a cure.

Lou Campbell, Ty's father, is a Mahopac native.
