Senator Greg Ball (R, C, I – Patterson) has announced that he will be hosting his first Student Advisory Council Meeting of the new school year on Friday, September 6, 2013 at 4:30 PM at his district office in Brewster, NY.
The Student Advisory Council was put in place by Senator Ball to work on issues that are important to students. Last year, the council focused on combating bullying, texting while driving, social media privacy and minimum wage increases. Students also traveled to Albany and had the ability to introduce, debate and vote on legislation on the New York State Senate floor.
“When I was a student I wanted to get involved but felt my elected officials were unapproachable,” said Senator Greg Ball. “I really wanted to change that perception once elected. It’s so important that we encourage our youth to get active and involved in our communities.”

Senator Ball’s Student Advisory Council will also elect a new Co-Chair after Brewster High School graduate Drew Podgorski leaves this fall to attend Macaulay Honors College at CUNY.
“Serving on Senator Ball’s Student Advisory Council has been a great honor. Last year, the mock senate session was a huge success among both the students who participated and the teachers who witnessed it,” said co-chair of the Student Advisory Council Drew Podgorski. “I encourage any student that would like to get involved and learn how government works to join the advisory council. This has been a great experience and I look forward to coming back to visit all the great friends I have made.”

“Senator Ball’s Student Advisory Council is composed of some of the best and brightest of the 40th District. Ambitious students from all across Westchester, Putnam, and Dutchess Counties gather every month to discuss important events, ideas, and concerns in their schools. Senator Ball wants to reach out to the youth of our district personally, so that he can get a more inside look at how he can work with us to better our schools,” said Student Advisory Council Co-chair Steven Youssef of Carmel High School. “I have learned so much about how the other schools in our district function and have been able to bring those ideas back to my own school. Senator Ball works very hard every year for us to be able to hold public roundtables on school safety and bullying as well as his annual trip to Albany where we take part in a Mock Senate Session and debate on real bills on the Senate Floor!”
