Bridget Higgins: Longtime Member, Officer of VFW Ladies Auxiliary

Bridget R. Higgins of Brewster, NY, died March 19, 2014 at Putnam Hospital Center with her family by her side. She was 87 years old.

Bridget was born on April 18, 1926, in Killarney, County Kerry, Ireland, daughter to the late Timothy and Catherine (Teahan) Ryan. On her 21st  birthday, she sailed to America.

Bridget married George M. Higgins on February 3, 1951 in Westport, CT. Mr. Higgins predeceased his wife in 1964. 

She was a member of St. Lawrence O’Toole Church, Brewster. 

Mrs. Higgins enjoyed crocheting, reading, gardening and her grandchildren. She was a 40 year member and past president of VFW Ladies Auxiliary; she is a member of Catholic Daughters and past member of the Ladies Ancient Oder of Hibernians. She cherished her family and friends immensely.

Bridget is survived by her children; George (Kathryn) Higgins, Timothy (Linda) Higgins, Patrick (Cindy) Higgins, Nora Higgins, Kathleen (Angel) Higgins, Sharon (Robert) Misyak, her two brothers, Msgr. Timothy Ryan, and Jeremiah Ryan and three sisters, Mary McDonald, Nora Campbell, and Kathleen Collins, 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a grandson George Higgins, three brothers and a sister.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday March 22, 2014 at 12PM at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church, Brewster, NY. Interment will follow at St. Lawrence O’Toole Cemetary. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4pm-8pm at Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Ave, Brewster.

Association, 2 Jefferson Plaza, Suite 103, Poughkeepsie, NY.
