Crash in Carmel Leads to DWI Arrest

The Carmel Police Department provided the following information. It does not indicate a conviction.

Police say a 20-year-old Putnam Valley man  was intoxicated when he crossed over the double-yellow lane and hit a guardrail in Mahopac.

The accident reportedly occurred at about 12:30 a.m. Monday, in the area of South Lake Boulevard. The driver was heading east.

"Putnam County 911 advised via radio that the driver of the vehicle just involved in the crash entered a gray pick-up truck and was fleeing the area towards the hamlet of Mahopac," authorities said in a statement released earlier this week. They did not mention any injuries in the report.

Officer Laura Smith responded. She observed the vehicle and stopped the motorist, Robert Moe Jr., in front of Southside Bar and Grill on Route 6N. Officials say Smith took note of the driver's condition and then administering field sobriety tests.

Smith arrested Moe on a misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated, as well as two infractions: failure to keep right and leaving the scene of an accident.
