Police Charge Brewster Man with Burglary

A 35-year-old Brewster man is facing misdemeanor and felony charges in connection with a burglary in the village, officials say.

Brewster Police Chief John DelGardo and Officer Louis Romano responded to the incident, which occurred at a Center Street residence around 12:15 p.m. Saturday.

The complainant told officials he was asleep upstairs in the home when his live-in girlfriend, who was just getting out of the shower, heard a noise. She looked downstairs and saw a man at the foot of the steps, according to police.

Authorities believe the defendant entered through a window. The lock was damaged and the window pried open.

When the woman yelled, her boyfriend woke up and confronted the subject, who fled, DelGardo told Patch.

Police found Christopher Villalobos, who the complainant identified, in the area shortly after the incident. They arrested him on a felony charge of second-degree burglary. He's also facing a misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest because he was fighting police as they brought him into the station, DelGardo said.

Villalobos—who was reportedly released from jail last week after allegedly committing a larceny—was sent to the Putnam County Correctional Facility on $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond. The Oak Street resident is due back in Village of Brewster Justice Court next month.
