Brewster Resident Scares Off Reported Intruder

Police say they have obtained video footage that may be helpful during their probe.

Brewster Police are investigating an attempted intrusion that occurred at a Garden Street home early Monday.

A resident contacted authorities after someone reportedly tried to enter the house at about 2 a.m. Word of the incident spread in an email via the online group Brewster10509:

"Someone tried both our front and back door," the person wrote. "He (or she) then went into the cars. Stupidly, I had left my car unlocked and my purse in the car. When [a relative] went outside to check the noise of the front door opening and being shaken, whoever it was disappeared. There was a mountain-type bike in the middle of the road."

The resident said the bicycle was gone a few moments later, and the purse was sitting on the sidewalk. There was no mention of missing items.

Police Chief John Del Gardo said the department obtained video footage of the area at the time of the incident, and a subject is visible riding a bicycle in the street. Del Gardo and other officials are investigating the incident.

Brewster Police may be reached at 845-222-2014.

Do the police think there is any link to the break in/assault that happened yesterday in New Fairfield?

I'm not sure, Lavender. I'll definitely follow up with police and let you know if I hear back. In the meantime, would you please provide a link to the incident you're referencing?
