Dozens Turn Out for Cleanup; Organizers Hope for Same Sunday

Folks concentrate on 'big stretches of road.'

About 40 people volunteered to tidy up the streets of Brewster and Southeast Saturday morning during a two-day community-wide cleanup.

Lynne Eckardt and Rich Parker, two of the people involved with organizing the event, said they handed out more than 100 large orange trash bags, along with tons of glove and safety vests. Folks headed all over the area—from Marvin Avenue and Prospect Street in the Village to Drewville, Maple and Reservoir Roads in Southeast.

"People have been really ambitious," Eckardt, a Southeast Town Board member, said. "They're doing big stretches of road. I didn't really know what to expect, but I hope we get more tomorrow."
