Faculty, students and community members will gather Saturday morning at Brewster High School for a grand reopening ceremony celebrating the new and improved track.
The event is slated for 9:15. Afterward is the 36th Annual Brewster Bear Classic Cross Country Invitational. Last year's event drew hundreds of athletes from dozens of school districts. Find this year's race schedule here.
Board of education trustees, who estimated the project would cost $221,000, approved in December 2012 badly-needed improvements to the track. School district officials planned to spend about $86,000. The rest of the costs were covered by a grant secured by State Sen. Greg Ball and funding from the Brewster Sports Foundation.
Work on the track began in May.
